BLOG TOUR | Cozy Up To Fall – EYMM Piko Top & Get Moving Leggings

Fall… Oh how i missed you!!  As much as i love sewing dresses and cute skirts, there is just something about sweaters and leggings that makes my heart skip a beat!  Its been unseasonably warm around here so its taking a little longer than normal to get in the swing of all sewing BUT a good blog tour will always do the trick!  Have you been following along with the other amazing outfits that have been shared this week?  It’s been super inspiring, which means my list is now about a mile long, haha!

Cozy-Up-to-Fall-Tour-web

This gorgeous sweater knit came in a grey mystery box from Sincerely Rylee fabrics last year.  I’ve been sitting on it for awhile and this seemed like the perfect time to pull it out.  The Piko Top has 3 hem options and 3 sleeve lengths.  For this version I went with the hi-lo hem and 3/4 length sleeves.

After I was finished hemming, I gathered some wide black lace and attached it just by zig zagging it along the my original hem.  Here’s a little secret, this is the PERFECT way to add a little extra length to both handmade and store-bought items.  It made the front length exactly where I would want to wear with leggings.

Speaking of those fabulous leggings, they are the Get Moving Leggings made in a double brushed poly from So Sew English.  Now, I know there are a million legging patterns out there, and I definitely own my share of most of them but I will say the fit of these was spot on.  When you measure for this pattern, it has you check your calf and thigh measurements in addition to waist/hip.  This made it really easy to grade the legs slimmer since my legs are about 2 sizes different than my hips/waist.   With 3 different waist styles and multiple lengths (shorts/capris/full length) and with or without a gusset, this leggings pattern is a one stop shop!

Hip Hop Tank Blog Tour – My Geeky Side

I have had the Love Notions Hip Hop Tank pattern for well over a year and i’m embarrassed to say before now, i’d never made one! I know right?!?   Jumping on this blog tour seemed like a great reason to dust it off and get to making.

Ok, so we all have that deep dark secret right??  No, it’s not a dirty one, just one that i don’t think everyone knows about me.  I am a HUGE Game of Thrones fan!!  EEK!   So marrying two of my favorite things, sewing and fandom seemed like a perfect idea.  This map fabric from Backstitch Fabrics was hiding on my shelf waiting for the perfect project and I think this was it!

While the pattern has amazing options on its own, I really wanted to add a little twist of my own and decided to make the back in 2 pieces rather than the standard tulip bottom.  For the back I used this gorgeous black and white knit that I was lucky enough to pick up from Quilt Market.   Its from the new Blake Cotton Jersey collection by Carolyn Friedlander that should be hitting shops this month!

One of my favorite things about this pattern is there’s a similar girl’s version. You can buy the bundle here.  I love patterns that I can duplicate for my daughter, and I’m certain this is a style she would really like!

IF you want to see a few versions in the girls style be sure to check out the other stops on the tour, there’s some REALLY cute girls versions sewn up!

Jocole Fall Blog Tour – Mix & Match Cowl Neck Tunic

jocoleedit-4 copy

Happy Saturday!!  I’m excited to finally be sharing my fab new tunic from the Jocole Mix & Match line.  I know a few may have been expecting me earlier in the week but Sharon from Sweet Pea and Pumkins was kind enough to trade days.  With moving into the studio the last few weeks have been INSANE!!

So i’ve been a little skeptical about how these mix & match patterns went but I will say now that I’ve made my first one, I can see these patterns becoming staples in my self-care sewing.

jocoleedit-7

I’ve been in a leggings mood lately so immediately knew a tunic length would be on my list.  Then since our midwest fall has been anywhere from 50-80 degrees daily, 3/4 length sleeves seemed like a great compromise for most any weather.   And to change things up a little a cowl neck- I don’t have much in that style AND I’ve never made one either.

So to recap I used the following Mix & Match:

Classic Sleeves
Classy Cowlneck Bodice
Radiant A-Line Bottom

jocoleedit-1-2

I love the length, it has the perfect coverage for leggings and I could even change it up with skinny jeans since its not TOO long.

Oh and hubby must have thought it was pretty good too since I got my favorite compliment ever… “You MADE it?  I figured you went shopping”  Hearing that he can’t tell the difference between store bought and me-made items is like music to my ears 🙂 haha!

Go check out all the options available in the mix & match series and start planning your next project!  The possibilities are ENDLESS!

Even better!! Want a chance to enter for a FREE Jocole Pattern of your choice??  Be sure to enter HERE!

Skirt Fabric: Vivid Leilani Spearmint Knit by Riley Blake for Patty Young
I am thrilled that I was invited to sew something up, so I decided to go with a BRAND NEW pattern, the Girls Capsule Skirt.  One of the things I think that really sets EYMM apart is the patterns all have amazing size ranges to accommodate just about anyone you will be sewing for.  This girls skirt starts at newborn and goes up to girls 18, plus as an added bonus has a matching doll skirt for 15″ or 18″ dolls.

We really love yoga waists around here so this pattern will for sure be a go-to.  It meets all 3 of my 3 major criteria, amazingly quick to make, knit (it has to be comfy), and a yoga waist.  It even has pockets which is usually a request from my daughter.

IMG_6099

As you can see we are still in comfy/play summer mode here but it could easily be dressed up a bit, making it very versatile.Untitled-1

AND as if all that wasn’t enough, you can even make matching mommy & me skirts since there is a women pattern as well.  We didn’t match (and she’s not very interested in us doing that anymore) but the version for women is every bit as easy and fabulous as the girls!
