Jennuine Designs Moto Jacket Blog Tour

Hey all!! Thanks for making a visit at our stop on the Jennuine Designs Moto Jacket Tour.

I’m going to start with a secret, this is the first pattern from Jennuine Designs that I’ve had a chance to sew up.  That being said, it definitely won’t be the last!  I am thoroughly impressed by the clarity of the instruction and design plus the construction left me with a beautifully finished garment, both inside and out.

The welt pockets and the finished look of the lining/facing gives this such a professional look. When she was showing off her new jacket to dad he didn’t even believe i’d made it, haha!  Love when that happens!

We talked about the colors and design, and her immediate request when I said I was making a leather jacket was that she wanted it to look like Mal’s from the new Disney Descendents movie.  We comprised and did more of an inspired by look by pulling the purple and green from Mal, but adding our own style.

Let’s be honest, we all have an inner (maybe slightly badass) diva deep down. And while that isn’t always her attitude, this jacket for sure brought it out, haha!

This was a tour for firsts, since this was also my first time sewing with leather. I chose a gray vegan leather from Girl Charlee that I absolutely love! It’s so soft and was very easy to work with.  My machine and I had a bit of a love-hate relationship using it but overall I’d use it again for sure.

I found a great purple sweater on the 1/2 off rack at Goodwill to use for the arms and collar.   I was able to cut the sleeves straight from the already made sleeves of the sweater so there was minimal finishing needed.  The pattern instructions explain how to complete the sleeves with a few different options depending on if you’re upcycling or not, which was very helpful.

For the lining I went with a Stenzo poplin from Mabel Madison.  I love how the colors in the lining pull everything together when it’s peaking out.IMG_6281

So cool! I’ve only recently heard about the Disney Descendants; I’m still in the Peg+Cat and Octonauts stage with my two girls! Thanks for joining the tour!

I really like how your’s turned out…love the leather look. I’m so wanting to try the Moto Jacket with leather, but am actually kind of scared I’d mess it up…even after sewing up the jacket 3 times already.

thank you!! I will say the vegan leather I used wasn’t a huge investment so it would be great to try with 🙂
