Hip Hop Tank Blog Tour – My Geeky Side

I have had the Love Notions Hip Hop Tank pattern for well over a year and i’m embarrassed to say before now, i’d never made one! I know right?!?   Jumping on this blog tour seemed like a great reason to dust it off and get to making.

Ok, so we all have that deep dark secret right??  No, it’s not a dirty one, just one that i don’t think everyone knows about me.  I am a HUGE Game of Thrones fan!!  EEK!   So marrying two of my favorite things, sewing and fandom seemed like a perfect idea.  This map fabric from Backstitch Fabrics was hiding on my shelf waiting for the perfect project and I think this was it!

While the pattern has amazing options on its own, I really wanted to add a little twist of my own and decided to make the back in 2 pieces rather than the standard tulip bottom.  For the back I used this gorgeous black and white knit that I was lucky enough to pick up from Quilt Market.   Its from the new Blake Cotton Jersey collection by Carolyn Friedlander that should be hitting shops this month!

One of my favorite things about this pattern is there’s a similar girl’s version. You can buy the bundle here.  I love patterns that I can duplicate for my daughter, and I’m certain this is a style she would really like!

IF you want to see a few versions in the girls style be sure to check out the other stops on the tour, there’s some REALLY cute girls versions sewn up!

Did you use knits or woven? Did you just extend the tulip up into the main back pieces? I love the look!

I used knits for the whole thing. I essentially combined the upper back pattern piece and the tulip piece.

We don’t often match but she does tend to like the styles I make myself 🙂
