I can’t believe its already time for a new One Thimble issue!! Seems like just yesterday I shared Issue 13 (maybe because it was one of the last few posts i’ve written… man that was a long holiday break, huh? sorry!)
I feel like I say it every issue but Jen and the contributors really knocked it out of the park! Inside of Issue 14 you’ll find 10 full patterns, 6 awesome tutorials, 4 cool techniques to try, articles about your handmade business and a partridge in a pear tree… haha just kidding about the partridge but the rest is no joke! OH… and if you get your issue before 2/13, you’ll get an early bird bonus!
These issues are so chalk full of information that printing them would be insanely expensive, so One Thimble is neatly packed into an E-Zine that you can easily swipe/scroll through on your table or pc and the patterns are all provided in PDF form so you can just print what you need. It’s GENIUS! and it keeps the price at only $25 AUD (for us girls in the US its under $20!!)
I’m dying to try the fabric covered snaps, and make a belt… do you know how hard it is to find toddler belts???
I whipped up the romper from Thread Faction for my little guy and seriously I see about 100 more of these for our summer months! I had planned a tee under it but he had a mind of his own this morning so we went with it… SO. IN. LOVE.
I used an organic cotton interlock from Birch Fabrics, it was the perfect weight and so soft! I also found some vintage buttons in the stash from my grandmother that were exactly what it needed. These straps are non-functioning, but really easy to get on/off. This goes from a 2T to 10 so I might try to convince miss opinionated 9 to try one too, if i’m lucky, lol
I also made one of the Hottie Covers. I thought i’d move away from my norm and try this piecing, its so fun!! I’d have to say I think he likes it. AND If you’re thinking to yourself, “We don’t even own a hot water bottle for that”… never fear, I have a solution that i’ll be sharing later this week!
I used some knit scraps that were laying around and fleece but this would also be a great project to upcycle some old sweaters.
Want to see more inspiration from this issue?? Check out the other blogs on our tour, there are some fabulous items to share!
My how time flies!! I can’t believe its already release day for a new issue of One Thimble! I’m hoping by now some of you have bought past issues and have been able to enjoy first hand all the awesomeness that lies in those virtual pages. This issue is no different!
(NOTE: the following contains affiliate links)
What you can expect when you get your issue –
258 pages filled with informative articles, tips and pattern pieces
10… yes, TEN patterns!
Active hyperlinks throughout, making it super simple to jump to exactly what you want read or a visit to a shop being advertised (can’t get that with that ‘ol paper magazine!)
3 extra tutorials with directions/cut instructions
PLUS!!! If you purchase before 11/14 you can get an EARLY BIRD BONUS! A gorgeous printable 2017 calendar featuring vintage Singer sewing machines.
How much you ask? While you could expect to drop a pretty penny on such valuable information, each issue is only $25 AUD (at the current conversion thats less than $20 USD) That works out for us Stateside folks at under $2/pattern!!
Reading through this issue, I was excited to see an article from Kristie Gilbert of Boo! Designs about sewing with knits. Knits are my passion for sure and so many people are afraid of trying them. She has some great ideas and work-around tips for everyone to give knits a shot! Boo! Designs also has a lovely swim pattern included… stay tuned next week for my pictures of that sewn up!
There are also some fantastic tips about working with and choosing leathers as your medium. This is the perfect time to try sewing with leather, especially since there is a beautiful clutch pattern included!
I also love reading up on the business related articles, making Facebook and Pinterest work more effectively for my own business is always welcome information!
How about a holiday gift guide?? A collection of items you can make for all your fiends and family from issues past… oh yes its there!! And if you need to give anyone ideas for gifts for you… what about a One Thimble subscription?? Its a gift that keeps giving!
There is so much more to read but I can’t give away all the good stuff right??? You will have to pick up your own copy to check out the rest!
Now, I know your thinking… but you said there were 10 patterns and all we’ve heard about are articles…. the wait is over! I had this fun donut fabric hanging around and it was beyond PERFECT for Danny Donut. Danny Donut is one of 3 free motion appliques in this issue. This one is great if you have never done free motion before, as it can really be done as traditional applique as well.
I used the donut fabric on a pair of Orbis Harem Skinny Pants from Sofilantjes. We went with a cropped version, and no pockets (per miss things request)
I love the angled button placard, what a fun detail!
Ryleigh was so proud of the phrase she came up with on her shirt we’d love to share with everyone… how about a free cut file to add the same text to your Danny Donut?? Click HERE to download.
There is SO SO much more to share from this issue and all the insanely talented ladies below are going to be adding some things in along our tour over the next week so be sure to check in with them all!
I had the pleasure of sewing up a few versions of the Rowan Raglan and i’m excited to finally be able to share. I’m totally a sucker for being able to buy 1 pattern and use it for both kiddos AND have it fit both well. I’m happy to report that this is one unisex pattern that I will most definitely be using again!
Read all about the multitude of options and get some inspiration from a few of the other reviewers on today’s Pattern Revolution blog.
Happy Monday!! Welcome to my little stop on the One Thimble Tour.
Today we’re celebrating Issue No. 9 PLUS One Thimble’s 2nd Birthday!! So excited for Jen and the team at OT.
If you haven’t checked out this fabulous E-zine yet, you have seriously missed 8 amazing issues and 100’s of patterns. In the past i’ve been lucky enough to review the full magazine, but this time (with a crazy home life) I decided to just preview one pattern. Don’t worry, I’m picking up my own copy too because there are some crazy cute things that I’m dying to sew up this issue. Want to win your own FREE copy?? Don’t miss the giveaway at the end!!
This issue I decided to check out The Statement Clutch from Two Pretty Poppets because honestly, a girl can never have too many bags, and i’m in the midst of deciding on teacher gifts for the holidays. Hello…. this is PERFECT!
The pattern comes in 3 sizes, what you see here is the small.
This is the perfect size for a bag to keep in my bigger purse for those quick trips, or for just a day out by myself. Can you tell we are hitting winter in the midwest… I can’t leave home without nose wipes, haha!
Now for those looking at this lovely lace overlay saying, “That had to have taken so much time” you’re wrong! I even admit, I was thinking that as I looked at fabric options, thinking what could I use so I didn’t need to add the overlay, lol! I decided to go with it though and the extra 2 minutes that it took (yes, thats really all it was) to freehand quilt some crazy waves (cause really who has time to make a neat even pattern??) was totally worth it. It gives it such a gorgeous finish.
There is also a recommendation of when to attach your tag if your putting one on, but rather than the back as suggested, I went with a smaller tag in the side seam. Mostly I wanted to use these cute tiny tags I got recently.
This is also great for those fabrics that you are down to your last 1/2 yard or fat quarter scrap. I went with these awesome Spotted Owls from Alexander Henry, and Elegant Ovals from Art Gallery. Both of which have been in my stash for years waiting for just the right project.
Ok, so I know I promised we were giving away a free copy of Issue No 9… here is your chance!!

Hey all!! So excited to be rounding out our Funktional Threads week with the Ashley Bundle. Thank you so much for checking out all our stops along the way (if you haven’t yet, i’ve linked them at the bottom)! And big thank you to Lisa and Larissa for inviting me to join in and share today.
These patterns for the skort and top are listed individually or you can get them as a bundle. Lets be honest, with the coupon at the bottom, it’s a no brainer to get both, I’m all for maximizing my pattern funds and the bundle is a fabulous deal.
Both patterns include sizes 2-16 so you can cover just about an girl your sewing for. The skirt has the paneled version that i’m sharing here, in 2 different lengths; this is the longer version so she can have a bit of growing room. There is also a really sweet petal version or just a basic circle skirt.
It also includes the shorts to go under so there’s no worry about anyone singing “I see London, I see France…..” haha!! You know where that’s going right?? With a skirt that has this kind of twirl undershorts are a must so how great to have them built in!!
The top includes multiple sleeve variations, 2 neckline variations, the hood, and even 2 different lengths. Here I used the sleeve piece that is used with the ruffled sleeves but left the ruffles off. I think it leaves a great little cap sleeve on its own that’s perfect for school! And really what girl doesn’t love a hood??
With all these options from both patterns, you could easily build a closet full of different combinations!! I’d love to see what awesomeness you sew up so be sure to share in Funktional Threads Pattern group. You’ll find tons of inspiration and lots of tips from others!
If you love the fabrics I used here be sure to check out One Red Blossom (the stars and the rainbow stripe) and MK Designs (the Rainbow Dash).

I am thrilled that I was invited to sew something up, so I decided to go with a BRAND NEW pattern, the Girls Capsule Skirt. One of the things I think that really sets EYMM apart is the patterns all have amazing size ranges to accommodate just about anyone you will be sewing for. This girls skirt starts at newborn and goes up to girls 18, plus as an added bonus has a matching doll skirt for 15″ or 18″ dolls.
We really love yoga waists around here so this pattern will for sure be a go-to. It meets all 3 of my 3 major criteria, amazingly quick to make, knit (it has to be comfy), and a yoga waist. It even has pockets which is usually a request from my daughter.
As you can see we are still in comfy/play summer mode here but it could easily be dressed up a bit, making it very versatile.
AND as if all that wasn’t enough, you can even make matching mommy & me skirts since there is a women pattern as well. We didn’t match (and she’s not very interested in us doing that anymore) but the version for women is every bit as easy and fabulous as the girls!
Now for our virtual goodie bags (what’s a party without one right??) How about we start with a coupon for 43% off the WHOLE store!? Yep, that’s right just, you can save 43% off your purchase at EYMM (affiliate link) with the coupon code EYMM. This makes many of the Mommy & Me bundles up to 68% off. This is good now through 11:59pm PST on Monday 8/3/15.
Not only is there an AMAZING blog tour going on but 1 lucky winner that leaves a comment below between now and 8.3.15 will win a FREE EYMM pattern of their choice!!!! †Which one would you pick?
Then hop on over to EYMM to check out the†awesome SALE, and an even bigger celebration giveaway with over $1000 in prizes. †There will be 40 winners in all.
